Retaining ring

07 Jun 2018Email

Retaining ring is a locking component of the mechanical seal. Mainly used in high-pressure high-speed seals, as well as cartridge mechanical seals.

The structure of the machine seal is various, and the common structure generally includes the following components:

1. Locking device (locking screw) 2. Retaining ring 3. Elastic element (spring) 4. Transmission mechanism (drive sleeve) 5. Compensation ring 6. Friction pair 7 auxiliary seal (O-ring) 8. Non-compensation ring

1. Compensating ring and non-compensating ring: The compensating ring is a sealing ring with axial compensation capability. It can be a rotating ring (moving ring) or a non-rotating ring (static ring); the non-compensating ring does not have axial compensation. The sealing ring of the ability can also be a rotating ring (moving ring) or a non-rotating ring (static ring).

2. Friction pair: A pair of sealing end faces are embedded at the top of the compensation ring and the non-compensation ring to start the main sealing function of the machine seal. In general, the compensation ring is made of a soft material, and the end face is narrow; the non-compensation ring is made of a hard material, and the end face is wide.

3. Elastic components and locking rings: they constitute the loading, compensating and buffering mechanism to ensure that the mechanical seals fit together after installation; they are compensated in time for wear; they are cushioned by vibration and turbulence. The elastic member may be a spring, a bellows, a wave spring or the like. The locking ring is used for the axial and radial positioning of the elastic element, and usually also has the function of transmitting torque or overcoming torque.

4. Auxiliary sealing ring; function as auxiliary sealing, sub-compensation ring auxiliary sealing and non-compensating ring auxiliary sealing. It can be an O-ring, a V-ring, a wedge ring, a rectangular ring, etc., used to seal the seal between the shaft and the machine seal, the machine seal and the housing.

5. Transmission mechanism: It acts to transmit torque. Commonly used transmission methods include transmission sleeves, shift forks, pins, keys or springs.
