Functions and Working Principles of Valves Matched with Multistage Centrifugal Pumps

26 Jan 2026Email

The multistage centrifugal pump is a type of pumping equipment widely used in water conservancy, electric power, chemical industry and other fields. Boasting powerful performance, it can meet the liquid transportation requirements under various complex working conditions. In such pumps, the functions and working principles of valves are of great significance.

The main functions of valves in a multistage centrifugal pump include:

  1. Flow control: Precise control of liquid flow is achieved by opening, closing and adjusting the valve opening to meet the demands of production or application.
  2. Pressure stabilization: Valves can regulate the system pressure when necessary to prevent equipment damage or production accidents caused by excessively high or low pressure.
  3. Process switching: When switching between various working scenarios or processes, valves can control the flow direction of the fluid, realizing the connection or isolation between different working units.

The working principle of a valve is mainly to control the on-off or flow rate of the fluid by opening and closing the valve disc relative to the valve seat. The specific process is as follows:

  1. When the valve is opened or closed, the valve disc moves to open or close relative to the valve seat, thereby changing the fluid passage.
  2. When adjusting the valve, the flow area of the fluid can be regulated by changing the opening of the valve disc, so as to adjust the flow rate.
  3. Valves are usually equipped with a certain sealing structure inside to ensure that no fluid leaks through the valve when it is in the closed state.
  4. Some valves are also fitted with actuators such as pneumatic, electric or hydraulic devices to realize remote or automatic control.

In addition, the valves in multistage centrifugal pumps need to have excellent wear and corrosion resistance to withstand the impact of high-speed fluid and corrosive media.

In summary, valves are the key components for controlling fluid flow in multistage centrifugal pumps. Through functions such as opening, closing and adjustment, they achieve precise control of fluid flow and ensure the stable operation of the system and the safety of production. At the same time, the rational selection and correct use of valves are also important links to ensure the efficient operation of multistage pumps. In practical applications, it is necessary to select the appropriate valve type and specification according to the specific working conditions and requirements.
