Multi-stage pump selection and use and maintenance

22 Jun 2019Email

When using a stainless steel multistage pump, first determine the application and performance parameters of the multistage pump and select the pump type.

The principle and basis for selecting a multistage pump:

1. Make the type and performance of the selected multistage pump meet the requirements of process parameters such as flow, head, pressure, temperature, NPSH and suction stroke.

2. Multi-stage pumps must meet the requirements of media characteristics.

(1) For pumps that transport flammable, explosive, toxic or valuable media, it is required to have a reliable shaft seal or a non-leakage pump, such as a magnetic pump (without shaft seal, indirectly driven by isolated magnetic force);

(2) For multi-stage pumps conveying corrosive media, it is required to use corrosion-resistant materials for convection components, such as fluoroplastic corrosion-resistant chemical pumps;

(3) For multi-stage pumps conveying medium containing solid particles, it is required to use wear-resistant materials for the convection parts, and if necessary, the shaft seals are washed with a clean liquid.

3. Mechanical requirements require multi-stage pumps with high reliability, low noise and low vibration.

4. Calculate the input cost of multi-stage pump procurement correctly, including procurement cost and installation and maintenance cost.

Maintenance and maintenance of multi-stage pumps:

(1) Check the multi-stage pump piping and joints for looseness. Turn the multistage pump by hand to see if the multistage pump is flexible.

(2) Add bearing lubrication oil to the bearing body, observe that the oil level should be at the center line of the oil mark, and the lubricating oil should be replaced or supplemented in time.

(3) Unscrew the water diversion screw plug of the multi-stage pump pump body and infuse the water diversion (or the slurry).

(4) Close the gate valve and outlet pressure gauge of the outlet pipe and the imported vacuum gauge.

(5) Jog the motor, try to see if the motor is turning correctly.

(6) If the multi-stage pump is to be deactivated for a long time, it is necessary to disassemble the pump completely, dry the water, and apply the grease to the rotating part and the joint.

(7) Try to control the flow and head of the multi-stage pump within the range indicated on the sign to ensure that the multi-stage pump operates at the highest efficiency point to obtain the maximum energy saving effect.

(8) During the operation of the multi-stage pump, the bearing temperature should not exceed the ambient temperature of 35C, and the maximum temperature should not exceed 80C.

(9) If it is found that the multi-stage pump has abnormal sound, stop immediately and check the cause.

(10) When the multi-stage pump is to be stopped, first close the gate valve and pressure gauge, then stop the motor.

(11) The multi-stage pump will change the lubricating oil after 100 hours in the first month of operation, and change the oil once every 500 hours.

(12) Multi-stage pump often adjust the packing gland to ensure that the drip leakage in the packing chamber is normal (it is better to make a drip leak).

(13) Regularly check the wear condition of the multi-stage pump bushings, and replace them in time after the wear is large.

(14) When the multi-stage pump is used in the cold winter season, after parking, the water plug of the lower part of the pump body should be unscrewed to release the medium. Prevent freezing cracks.

(15 Start the motor, when the multi-stage pump is running normally, open the outlet pressure gauge and the inlet vacuum pump, after seeing the appropriate pressure, gradually open the gate valve and check the motor load.
