Shaft power

29 May 2018Email

Shaft power is the power of the prime mover to the pump shaft per unit time under a certain flow rate and head.

Shaft power is a term that is often used on pumps where the shaft transfers power (motor power) to the power (impeller). The power value is less than the rated motor power.

In essence, the shaft power has a great relationship with the coupling. The motor is connected to the pump head impeller through the coupling. When the motor rotates, the coupling is driven, the coupling double and the impeller in the pump head are connected, and then the impeller is rotated. . Because of this part of the coupling, the motor power cannot be fully converted to the actual efficiency of the impeller rotation, so the shaft power is less than the motor power (rated power).

Calculation formula
(1) Formula for calculating the shaft power of slurry pump
Flow rate Q M3/H
Head H meter H2O efficiency N%
Slurry density AKG/M3
Shaft power NKW
N=H*Q*A*G/(N*3600)
The motor power also takes into account the transmission efficiency and safety factor. Generally, the direct connection is taken as 1, the belt is taken to be 0.96, and the safety factor is 1.2.

(2) Pump shaft power calculation formula: flow × head × 9.81 × medium specific gravity ÷ 3600 ÷ pump efficiency
Flow unit: cubic / hour
Head unit: meter
P = 2.73HQ / Η. Where H is the head, unit M, Q is the flow, Η is the efficiency of the pump, and P is the shaft power, the unit is KW. That is, the shaft power of the pump P = Ρ GQH / 1000 Η (KW).
