Common fault solutions of pipeline booster pumps

23 Jun 2021Email

The pipeline booster pump is a common equipment for boosting and water delivery in various fields. Its characteristics: simple and compact structure, convenient installation and maintenance, stable and reliable performance, and the faults and treatment methods of the pipeline booster pump are discussed below.

A. No water can be discharged from the pipeline booster pump

1. The inlet and outlet valves are not opened, the inlet and outlet pipes are blocked, and the runner impeller is blocked; check and remove the blockage.

2. The motor moves in the wrong direction, the motor lacks phase, and the number of revolutions is very slow; adjust the motor direction and tighten the motor wiring.

3. Air leakage in the suction pipe; tighten each sealing surface to remove air.

4. The pipeline pump is not filled with liquid, and there is air in the pump cavity; open the upper cover of the pump or open the exhaust valve to exhaust the air.

5. The inlet water supply is insufficient, the suction stroke is too high, and the bottom valve leaks; stop inspection and adjustment (this phenomenon is prone to occur when the water pipe is connected to the grid and the use with suction stroke).

6. Excessive pipeline resistance, improper pump selection; reduce pipeline bends and reselect pumps

B. Insufficient outlet pressure of pipeline booster pump

1. There is air in the liquid; air in the liquid.

2. The impeller is damaged if the speed is too low; the pump speed, replace the impeller.

3. The outlet valve is too open; reduce the outlet valve.

C. Insufficient flow of pipeline booster pump

1. The impeller of the pipeline pump flow channel is partially blocked, scale deposits, and the valve opening is insufficient; remove the blockage, and re-adjust the valve opening, pump and pipeline.

2. The number of revolutions is too low; increase the number of revolutions of the water pump shaft.

3. The impeller is worn; replace the impeller.

4. The outlet valve is too open; replace the impeller.

5. The voltage is low; stable voltage.

D. The booster pump motor heats up

1. The ambient temperature is too high, and the motor heat dissipation is poor

2. The motor load is too heavy.

3. The voltage is too high or too low or lack of phase.

4. Water enters into the motor; check the mechanical parts for timely adjustment and treatment, the positive outlet valve of the regulator makes the pump work near the rated flow and head.

E. The pipeline booster pump leaks

1. The mechanical seal is worn out; replace it.

2. The pump body has sand holes or cracks; welded or replaced

3. Uneven sealing surface; trimming.

4. Loose installation bolts; tighten.

F. Vibration or noise of pipeline booster pump

1. The installation of the unit is not firm; the supporting part at the flange of the pump should be reinforced.

2. The suction pipe is leaking or the suction pipe mouth is not submerged in depth enough to make the pump suck in air; block the leak or lengthen the submerged depth of the suction pipe.

3. The impeller produces cavitation; reduce the installation height of the pump or increase the suction pipe diameter or increase the inlet pressure, and replace the damaged impeller.

4. Deviate from the operating conditions; adjust to the high-efficiency area (rated point) as much as possible to run to avoid the pump running at the large flow point.

G. The power of the pipeline booster pump is too large

1. Use beyond the rated flow; adjust the flow and close the outlet valve.

2. The suction lift is too high; lower the installation surface.

3. The bearing is worn; replace the bearing.
