The difference between centrifugal pump and axial flow pump

13 Apr 2024Email

Centrifugal pump and axial flow pump are two commonly used pump classes, they have a wide range of applications in industry. Although they all belong to liquid conveying equipment, their working principle, structure and application are very different. Below, Changsha Pump Factory will introduce the difference between centrifugal pump and axial flow pump in detail from various angles in this article.

First, the working principle is different:

Centrifugal pumps use the action of centrifugal force to expel liquid from the center. When the centrifugal pump rotor rotates, the liquid is sucked in and flows rapidly along the direction of the centrifugal force, and finally discharged through the outlet. The axial flow pump is to push the liquid along the axis direction through the rotation of the impeller to achieve liquid transportation.

Second, the structural design is different:

The main components of the centrifugal pump include inlet, blade, shell and outlet. The inlet pipe introduces the liquid through suction, and then compresses and outputs the liquid through the rotation of the blade. The axial flow pump is composed of an inlet pipe, a blade and a fixed shell, etc. The inlet pipe introduces the liquid, and the rotation of the impeller pushes the liquid to flow along the axis and finally discharge through the outlet.

3. Different application occasions:

Centrifugal pumps are suitable for conveying high pressure, low flow liquid, often used in industrial fields and construction industry water supply and drainage systems. It has the characteristics of long conveying distance and high lift. The axial flow pump is suitable for conveying large flow, low pressure liquid, often used in farmland irrigation, drainage and urban sewage and other occasions. It has the characteristics of large throughput and small volume.

4. Different efficiency and energy consumption:

Due to the working principle of the centrifugal pump, the liquid is well compressed in the blade, so its efficiency is relatively high. In the case of conveying large flow, the efficiency of axial flow pump is relatively low because the force of liquid is more complicated. In addition, due to the increased pressure of the centrifugal pump, the energy consumption is relatively large, and the axial flow pump in the case of conveying large flow, the energy consumption is small.
