The Mexican oil and gas management department announced that it will hold a bidding for the development of shale areas in September this year. There are a total of 9 bidding areas, located in the northeastern Mexican-American border of Tamaulipas. The Mexican National Oil Company has drilled more than 20 exploration wells here and has the right to develop conventional and unconventional oil and gas resources in the area.
According to official data, the unconventional oil and gas resources in these areas are about 1.16 billion barrels of oil equivalent, and there are 53 million barrels of oil equivalent of conventional oil and gas resources. The development of shale oil and gas resources in these areas will face many challenges because of the extreme lack of local infrastructure and severe water shortage, which is not conducive to hydraulic fracturing operations.
