Startup, operation and maintenance of vertical stainless steel multistage centrifugal pump

19 Mar 2021Email

1. The vertical stainless steel multi-stage centrifugal pump must be filled with water (or liquid to be transported) to start

●Fill the pump in the reverse irrigation system:

Close the pump outlet valve, open the screw on the pump head, slowly open the water inlet valve until a steady flow of water gushes out of the exhaust screw plug, and then tighten the exhaust screw. Fully open the check valve on the suction line.

●Fill the pump when the page is lower than the pump in the open system:

Note: A check valve must be installed on the suction line

Close the pump outlet valve, open the screw plug on the bracket or the sealing seat, and inject the liquid into the pump through the screw plug hole until the pump and the suction pipe are completely filled with water, then screw on the screw plug again.

Do not start the pump until the pump is filled with liquid and exhausted completely! Pay attention to the direction of the vent hole of the exhaust screw plug, and be careful to ensure that the overflowing water does not injure people, and do not cause damage to the pump and other components. In hot water applications, be careful not to heat it to avoid the danger of scalding!

2. Check the direction of rotation

Turn on the power and observe the direction of rotation (look at the motor fan). The correct direction of rotation should be as shown by the arrow on the pump head, that is, from the motor drive end, the pump should rotate in a counterclockwise direction.

3. Check before starting the vertical stainless steel multistage centrifugal pump
●Check whether the anchor bolts are tightened;
●Whether the pump is full of water;
●Whether the grid voltage is correct;
●Whether the direction of rotation is correct;
●Whether all pipelines are tightly connected, and the pipelines can supply water normally;
●Whether the valve on the inlet pipe is fully opened; the outlet valve should be opened slowly after the pump has been overpowered;
●If a pressure gauge is installed, check the working pressure;

●All controls required for normal operation. If the pump is controlled by a pressure switch, check and adjust the start and cut-off pressure. Check that the full load current of the motor through the pressure switch should not exceed the maximum allowable current.

4. Number of starts of vertical stainless steel multistage centrifugal pump
The pump cannot be started too often. It is recommended that the motor power is less than or equal to 4KW, and no more than 100 starts per hour; the motor power> 4KW does not exceed 20 starts per hour. If it is found that the starting is too frequent; the control equipment must be adjusted to reduce the starting and stopping frequency. It is necessary to check the installation at this time.

5. The use of vertical stainless steel multi-stage centrifugal pumps refers to the performance range of the bold curve to prevent overheating caused by too small flow and motor overload if the flow is too large.

6. According to this manual, it is known that the installed pump will be able to work effectively with little maintenance:

●The mechanical seal is self-adjusting, and the contact surface of the moving and static grinding blocks in the seal is lubricated and cooled by the liquid delivered by the pump. (It is not necessary to dismantle the motor to replace the mechanical seal of the pump with a matching motor power greater than 7.5KW).
●The sliding bearing in the pump is lubricated by the liquid delivered by the pump.

7. Antifreeze measures

The pump can be used in a system where antifreeze measures have been taken for the water. If the pump is installed in a place prone to freezing, an appropriate amount of antifreeze must be added to prevent the liquid delivered by the pump from icing and damaging the pump. If there is no antifreeze, the pump should be shut down when there is a risk of frost. When the pump is out of service, the water in the pump and the system must be drained.

8. The pump needs to be checked regularly as follows

●The working and operating pressure of the pump;

●Possible leakage;
●The motor may overheat;
●Remove clean/replace all filters;
●Disconnect time of motor overload;
●The frequency of automatic and shutdown;
●All control operations;
If a fault is found, control the "common faults and solutions" to check the system.

9. When the pump is out of service for a long time, it should be cleaned and kept properly.

10. The pump should be protected from corrosion and damage during storage.
