Centrifugal pump cavitation causes and prevention

16 Aug 2023Email

If you choose a centrifugal pump most afraid of the failure, there is no doubt that it must be cavitation, cavitation, cavitation, also known as cavitation, cavitation, cavitation, etc., which is the degree of damage to the centrifugal pump is very serious phenomenon, in order to allow customers and friends to better avoid the use of pumps caused by the phenomenon of cavitation, pump manufacturer zoomlian pump plant technician Shi Gong here to share with you the phenomenon of water pump corrosion and the causes of water pump cavitation, I believe that after reading this article for the circumvention of the water pump cavitation phenomenon is somewhat helpful. Water pump cavitation phenomenon is somewhat helpful.

Cavitation phenomenon refers to the centrifugal pump in the working process, due to pressure drop or vacuum formation, resulting in the liquid in the form of gas bubbles precipitated and instantly collapsed in the liquid, causing violent liquid shock and oscillation phenomenon. Here are some explanations of the pump cavitation phenomenon and causes:

1、 pressure drop: when the pressure at the inlet of the centrifugal pump is reduced to below the vapor pressure of the liquid, the liquid begins to boil, the gas in the liquid in the form of bubbles precipitated, the formation of cavitation.

2、too high inlet speed: when the centrifugal pump inlet speed is too high, the liquid flows through the inlet when there is intense eddy current and turbulence, so that the liquid internal pressure drops, triggering cavitation.

3、the inlet end of the unreasonable design: centrifugal pump inlet design is unreasonable, such as the inlet pipe diameter is too small, too many elbows, the inlet pipe arbitrarily narrowed, etc., will lead to the inlet at the flow rate acceleration and pressure reduction, causing cavitation.

4、the nature of the liquid is not adapted: some liquids contain gas or steam, or the liquid contains volatile substances, these factors will increase the risk of liquid cavitation.

5、too high a working temperature: high temperatures reduce the bubble point of the liquid, the liquid is easy to vaporize, increasing the possibility of centrifugal pump cavitation.

6、prolonged low flow or clogging conditions: prolonged low-flow operation or clogging at the inlet end makes the liquid stay at the inlet for too long, which is prone to cavitation.

In order to avoid the problem of centrifugal pump cavitation, the following measures will generally be taken: rational design of the inlet piping, to ensure that the inlet pressure is not lower than the requirements, appropriate control of the inlet flow rate, the selection of the pump type and materials in line with the characteristics of the liquid, to avoid a long period of low-flow or clogging operation.
